LE MANS 2025 - DEBRIEF
At Le Mans, it was the 93rd time in history that the eyes of the entire world were focused on the king of all sports car races this weekend. For Vesti, the encounter with Le Mans was only the second time. This time in the top class Hypercar in a field that featured Danish drivers everywhere.
"It is impressive in itself that so many Danish drivers are placed with the best car manufacturers in the world. At Le Mans, one becomes even more aware of being Danish. The sense of national pride amidst an inferno of many languages and nationalities makes Le Mans something completely different and unique. There are Danes everywhere, both on and off the track.
"
"I didn't get sore hands from racing! But from signing autographs and throwing merchandise to all the many fans. Le Mans is for the fans. Things are masterfully organized on the track and in the city with great proximity to the many traveling enthusiasts. A huge thank you to all of you Danes for participating and for your engagement, which lifts us drivers enormously. Also I am incredibly grateful for all the Cadillac and Whelen fans around the globe supporting such a great American team and manufacturer which I’m immensely proud to be a part of.
"
On the sporting side, the race itself didn't bring big smiles to Vesti. But lots of laps provide lots of learning when you are almost "new" at Le Mans.
"Driving in the Hypercar class is the coolest! 22 cars on the track, close overtakes by super skilled drivers day and night, and filled with risk, you really live life to its fullest as a pro racing driver. The night is the best and take on a life of its own - everything is intense and completely on the edge. And yes, the saying: "living life in the fast lane" can't ring any truer! My team Whelen Cadillac Racing has been at its absolute highest level this weekend. My two teammates Jack Aitken and Felipe Drugovich are always the safe bets. When you arrive in Le Mans on Thursday the week before the race and are together for 11 days, you are tested in every way, including patience and endurance. We are just good individually and together as a team.
"
The team was right at the front from the start after qualifying P8. Unfortunately, during his second stint, Vesti was challenged by a technical problem, which seemed to be resolved without costing the team any time. But in the middle of the night, the team lost several laps in the pit when the problem returned. And by early morning, there was nothing more to be done. Game over at Le Mans.
"It is totally frustrating with such a huge investment in this race from the team's and General Motors' side, that we have to see ourselves retire. But it is the experience that builds our future races. And we are going to win races with this car. And then we will have one more experience for the race at Watkins Glen.
"
The upcoming week will be a challenging one after a long journey home by car from Le Mans to the UK and then by plane to the USA on Tuesday morning. Watkins Glen is already taking place next weekend.
