Formula E rookie test

On Sunday, Vesti was at Mahindra Racing in Berlin for this year's German edition of Formula E. Prior to Vesti's rookie test on Monday it was important for him to participate back stage and attend meetings with team engineers as well as debriefings hence getting a chance to learn and gather as much information as possible.

"

I didn't really expect anything at all, because I had no idea what to expect", says an honest Vesti.

"

As it turned out Vesti was in for a positive surprise!

"

It took a few laps to really get going. Talk about getting used to. The car is driven completely differently than in F2 and F1. There is no point in breaking as late as possible. The car has no downforce at all. My challenge was therefore, when I reached the point where I didn't feel like I could get any further, to try to slow down to get faster. It really sounds counter intuitive, but such is the nature and reality of a Formula E racer. I am used to a car with lots of grip, where I push to the limit, and this is the exact opposite.

"

Vesti was 3rd fastest on paper throughout the morning, but ended the day in a theoretical P2. It's the term teams most often look at, which is about the drivers' fastest sector times over an entire day, which are then put together for the theoretical fastest lap. Specifically: how good you are at each turn.

"

I now understand why Formula E is a World Championship. Top class engineering. I am impressed by what I experienced and saw on that front. Also I am grateful to Mahindra Racing, who welcomed me with open arms and quickly helped me understand the car and its capabilities. I had a super good day.

"

Last week, Vesti had another pretty cool experience. In ELMS Vesti secured Cool Racing's first podium position on French Paul Ricard. Vesti took over the car on the final stint P8 and successfully gained six positions and finished P2.

Today and tomorrow, Vesti is back at the same Paul Ricard for the final preparations for this year's 24 hour Le Mans race on June 16. On Thursday, Vesti leaves for F1 at Imola along with his manager to fulfil his role as a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team reserve driver.
